The APRM 2017 organized by IFSA LC-IPB (IFSA Local Committee, Faculty of Forestry IPB) and PInK (Pusat Informasi Kehutanan) has four main events such as general lecture, delegation presentation, field trip, and cultural night.

The general lecture was attended by Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Ir. Lailan Syaufina, MSc. According to her, this event is a platform for students to strengthen the networking and collaboration among forestry students of IFSA especially in Asia-Pacific region.

Indonesia, blessed with tropical forests, challenged to sustainable forest management. Indonesian forest has historical value in traditional and local wisdom with rich biodiversity. Forest is also an instrumental for our lives. It affects our food, biodiversity, human’s health, and most importantly our economy, society, and ecosystem. SDG should be realized and this should be an interaction between SDG and forestry.

According to Dr. Ir. Agus Justianto M Sc, Senior Advisor to the Minister for Natural Resource Economics and Secretary of Advisory Council for Climate Change as the Keynote Speaker to this session, we need to take part on climate change since it affects the survival of human race. Forest and trees give an opportunity to the society and providing good chances for welfare, employment, food security to promote human being. The United Nation have special strategies on forests called Global Forest Goals that reaching the goals in SDGs; Eradicating poverty, Zero hunger by providing foods, Good health and well-being, Equal rights for gender, Clean water and sanitation, Life on mangrove, giving role ecosystem of water, and so much more that forest can give.

Developing Forestry Based Industry by Non-Timber Forest Products Utilization

Goods and services of forest ecosystem, forest resources like industrial wood is important. Besides that, Indonesia, reinable products of Indonesia reserach showed Timber Forest Products (TFP) has only 5 % to 10 % of total value of sustainable products of Indonesia natural forests.

According to Prof. Dr. Ir. Dudung Darusman, MA as a Lecturer of Forest Management Dept. Faculty of forestry IPB, the important role is to combusting the forest, we must understand about microeconomics. What young foresters have to do; high spirit and accesibility to learn sciences and technologies on the economic management, great concerns on socia, national and international humanity problems along with sample individual concern, strong intentions to work togethers inergically at global level, available advance and very helpful information technologies and growing new style of “sharing economy” to repair traditional on available assistance.

NTFP is all biological object include services that came from forest or forest stand, except wood products. The characteristic are diversity, yield, seasonal collection, value sometimes higher than woods, traditional harvesting.

According to Prof Dr Ir Fauzi Febrianto, MS as a Lecturer of Faculty of forestry IPB, In Indonesia, the processing technology can be mechanical, thermal, and chemical processing. We need to develop industry that able to utilize NTFP. Industries that needs to be developed are wood composite industries, oriented strand boards, particle board, wood plastic composite, cellulose nano fiber composite, pulp and paper, chemical and biomass based energy.

Repositioning Community Forest: Transformation from concepts into practices

Social forestry can be community forest, and community empowerment. Community forestry can be located in state forestland area (Community forest, community forest plantation, and Village forest), or in private land (Private forest). According to Dr. Ir. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat M Sc F Trop as Director of Directorate of Strategic and Agricultural Studies IPB, problems is low access to forests, and low cash value of forest. It leads to poverty and forest degradation. Forest management options, if state capacity is weak and social capital is strong, give full rights to community to manage the forest. If state capacity is weak and social capital is weak, make it private management. If state capacity is strong and social capital is strong, make a collaborative management to manage the forest, but if state capacity is strong and social capital is weak, give it a state management.
